Calm seas, that turned stormy late, and a great fleet turnout highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The North Sea regions were calm and smooth for the first portion of our monthly There and Back Again series across the width of the entire estate, as every skipper finished without a hiccup. The seas turned choppy late into the second portion, as the Mammea region decided to take a late lunch and go offline, taking two skippers with it resulting in the only two DNFs (Did Not Finish) recorded on the day. The crowd that gathered on the small race dock, in the Eden Jakana region, and then following the fleet, hopping to the islands in the Ziziphus, Genip, and Eden Auk regions, reveled and cheered on this weeks Bandit skippers as they put on a lively display of fleet racing. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Curlew to Jaeger 01 and North Sea Jaeger to Curlew 01 courses, was comprised of a majority of six Bandit 22 LTEs. Four Bandit IFs, three sailing single-handed and one sailing with crew respectively, and four Bandit 25Rs rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.

Race Notes:
Sandra (WWWAAAA Resident) disqualified (DSQ) during the second race due to sailing an incorrect course. Sandra rounded the fifth course mark, the red buoy in the Cocoa region, clockwise instead of counterclockwise.
Jenna (jnx1e Resident), Fanny (fannydeep Resident), Jackson (Jacquimo Resident), and Sirius (Sirius Rosca) all finished tied with 13 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.“
Skipper | Best Finish | Next Best Finish |
jnx1e Resident | 2 | 11 |
fannydeep Resident | 4 | 9 |
Jacquimo Resident | 5 | 8 |
Sirius Rosca | 6 | 7 |
With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Jenna’s favor with having a second place finish over Fanny’s fourth place, Jackson’s fifth place, and Sirius’s sixth place finishes as their best.
Yumiko (yumikonakayama Resident) and Sandra (WWWAAAA Resident) both finished tied with 23 points.
No excluded scores shall be used.“
Skipper | Best Finish | Next Best Finish |
yumikonakayama Resident | 10 | 13 |
WWWAAAA Resident | 11 | 12 |
With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Yumiko’s favor with having a tenth place finish over Sandra’s eleventh place finish as her best.
