Choppy to calm seas, with a great fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The North Sea regions were choppy during the small boat portion of the regatta, as four DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded. Of those four DNFs, two were from skippers crashing, while the remaining two were from a skipper pulling her boat after the scripts stopped functioning, and a skipper’s internet connection failing. The seas calmed down for the big boat portion, after five finicky regions were restarted, with all 13 boats in the big boat fleet finishing with nary an issue. The crowd on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier, and along the shores of the island in the Ziziphus region, cheered on this weeks skippers as they put on a great display of tight-knit fleet racing.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Bowline Reverse course, was made up of a small majority of five The Mesh Shop (TMS) Nacra 17s. Four Bandit 22 LTEs, two Bandit IFs, one single-handed and one crewed respectively, two TMS Flying Shadows, one single-handed and one crewed respectively, one Bandit 25r, and one Quest M-24 rounded out this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Outer Inner Loop (OIL) course, was made up of a majority of seven TMS One Design 65s. Three Wildwind Open 60s, one TMS Volvo Open 70, one Wildwind AC-62, and one Wildwind RC-44r rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.

Today’s winner was Moon (moonglownight Resident), with Jenna (jnx1e Resident) second, and Zimtzicke (Nicole Myhre) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate and to the SLCG for helping with racing duties.

Race Notes:
Moon (moonglownight Resident) and Jenna (jnx1e Resident) both finished tied with 6 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
moonglownight Resident 2 4
jnx1e Resident 3 3

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Moon’s favor with having a second place finish over Jenna’s third place finish as her best.

Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook) and Isa (isab DeCuir) both finished tied with 10 points.

Emileigh Starbrook 2 8
isab DeCuir 4 6

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Emileigh’s favor with having a second place finish over Isa’s fourth place finish as her best.

Daenerys (blondij Resident) and Fanny (fannydeep Resident) both finished tied with 24 points.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
blondij Resident 10 14
fannydeep Resident 12 12

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Daenerys’s favor with having a tenth place finish over Fanny’s twelfth place finish as her best.

Palani (Palani Allen) and JUN (since20171106 Resident) both finished tied with 26 points. As they both have the exact same finishes, a DNF (Did Not Finish) in the small boat portion and a DNS (Did Not Start) in the big boat portion respectively, neither Rule A8.1 or Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing will satisfy breaking this tie. Therefore, Palani and JUN remained tied in fourteenth place overall.
