Choppy seas and a great fleet turnout highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The North Sea regions were finicky to some, as seven DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day due to crashes across two races. Of those seven DNFs, one skipper accounted for two, crashing in both races. In light of the choppy seas, the spectators that gathered on the small race dock and Poseidon Center Spectator Pier, both in the Eden Jakana region, and on the observation deck of the lighthouse on the island in the Ziziphus reign, still cheered the great display of sailing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Trapezoid course and North Sea Olympic Course (Long), was comprised of a majority of nine Bandit IFs, eight sailing single-handed and one sailing with crew respectively. Five Bandit 25Rs rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.

Race Director: Cryptic
Wind: SW (225°) 18kts

Note:
Did Not Finish (DNF) = number of finish +1
Did Not Start (DNS) = number of start +1

Today’s winner was Sirius (Sirius Rosca), with Moon (moonglownight Resident) second, and Jackson (Jacquimo Resident) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate and to the SLCG for helping with race duties.

Race Notes:
Lilita (lilita Cifuentes) was disqualified (DSQ) during the first race for sailing an incorrect course, she missed the first mark in, the orange buoy in the Soncoya region.

Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) was disqualified (DSQ) during the first race for failing to complete a 360° penalty turn as instructed by a race director for a Rule 11 foul against another skipper.

11 ON THE SAME TACK, OVERLAPPED

Nihiwatu (Nihiwatu Resident) and Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook) both finished tied with 12 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
Nihiwatu Resident 4 8
Emileigh Starbrook 6 6

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Nihiwatu’s favor with having a fourth place finish over Emileigh’s sixth place finish as her best.

Fabber (Fabber Resident) and Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) both finished tied with 19 points. As they both have the exact same finishes, a ten point finish in the first race and a nine point finish in the second race respectively, neither Rule A8.1 or Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing will satisfy breaking this tie. Therefore, Fabber and Rugger remain tied in eleventh place overall.

Daenerys (blondij Resident) and Lilita (lilita Cifuentes) both finished tied with 23 points. As they both have the exact same finishes, a ten point finish in the first race and a thirteen point finish in the second race respectively, neither Rule A8.1 or Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing will satisfy breaking this tie. Therefore, Daenerys and Lilita remain tied in twelfth place overall.
