Smooth sim sailing weather, that turned stormy, and a great fleet turnout highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The regions of the North Sea were well behaved during the first race but turned stormy as four DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the last lap of race two. All four of the DNFs were due to skippers crashing or getting stripped from their boat while entering or leaving the Eden Fulmar region. The crashes did not phase the crowds that where gathered on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small racing dock, both in the Eden Jakana region, as they cheered on every skipper. This weeks fleet, sailing on North Sea Olympic Course (Short) and a two lap affair on the North Sea Short Loop course, was comprised of a majority of seven Bandit IFs, two sailing with crew and five sailing single-handed respectively. Four Bandit 25Rs made up the remainder of this weeks Bandit fleet.

UL (ultramantra Resident), Jackson (Jacquimo Resident), and Tamarushka (Tamara Czervik) both finished tied with 11 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
ultramantra Resident 3 8
Jacquimo Resident 4 7
Tamara Czervik 5 6

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in UL’s favor with having a third place finish over Jackson’s fourth place finish and Tamarauska’s fifth place finish as their best. Subsequently, Jackson further breaks the tie with Tamarushka with his fourth place best finish over Tamaraushka’s fifth place best finish.

Nihiwatu (Nihiwatu Resident) and Max (Maximiliano Szondi) both finished tied with 18 points.

Nihiwatu Resident 7 11

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Nihiwatu’s favor with having a seventh place finish over Max’s eighth place finish as his best.
