Great sim sailing weather and another nice fleet turnout highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The regions of the North Sea were smooth and behaved as only one DNF (Did Not Finish) was recorded on the day, due to skipper pulling her boat after its scripts stopped responding from another boat fouling and colliding with her. Both fleets showcased some great sailing for the crowds gathered on the small race dock, in the Eden Curlew region, and the shores of the islands in the Genip, Ziziphus, and Eden Auk regions.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on North Sea Olympic Course (Long), was comprised of a small majority of five The Mesh Shop (TMS) Star Class. Four TMS Nacra 17s, three Bandit 25Rs, and one Bandit IF made up the remainder of this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Counterclockwise (CCW) course, was comprised of a small majority of three Wildwind Open 60s. Two TMS One Design 65s, two TMS Volvo Open 70s, two Bandit 50/3s, one ACA33, one Wildwind RC-44r, and one Wildwind AC-62 rounded out the big boat fleet.

Note: The handicap value for the TMS Star Class has been adjusted from 0.64 to 0.66 as of the publication of this post. For more, please see our North Sea Handicap Table.

Race Notes:
Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) was disqualified during the big boat portion for failing to complete a 360° penalty turn as directed by a race director for a Rule 10 foul at the start line.

Julie (JulieRoyale Resident) and Teagan (Teagan Snowpaw) finished tied with 4 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.
