Nice sim sailing weather, with a great spectator and fleet turnout, highlighted the last North Sea Bandit Regatta of 20191. The regions of the North Sea were well behaved as only one DNF (Did Not Finish) was recorded on the day, due to a skipper pulling her boat halfway through the first race. The large gathering of spectators on hand, on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier, in the Eden Jakana region, and along the northern shore of the island in the Ziziphus region, took in some great racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on North Sea Olympic Course (Short) and 2 laps on the North Sea Short Loop course, was comprised of a majority of eight Bandit IFs, six sailing single-handed and two with crew respectively. Five Bandit 25Rs rounded out this weeks fleet.

1Special Note: The North Sea and Backwater Bay will take a two week holiday break from racing and sailing activities, starting Monday, December 23rd, 2019. Racing and sailing activities in the North Sea and out of Backwater Bay will then resume during the new year, on Monday, January 6th, 2020. Please consult our North Sea Sailing and Racing Calendar for further details.

Race Notes:
Jackson (Jacquimo Resident) and Julie (JulieRoyale Resident) both finished tied with 11 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
Jacquimo Resident 3 8
JulieRoyale Resident 5 6

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Jackson’s favor with having a third place finish over Julie’s fifth place finish as her best.

Safy (CarissaBellane Resident) and Sirius (Sirius Rosca) both finished tied with 13 points.

Zimtzicke (Nicole Myhre) and Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook) finished tied with 23 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

Skipper Race 1 Race 2
Nicole Myhre 12 11
Emileigh Starbrook 11 12

In the last race, Zimtzicke breaks the tie with Emileigh with her eleventh place finish over Emileigh’s twelfth place finish.
