Another great fleet turnout, with nice sim sailing weather, highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. Only two DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day, one in each regatta portion due to crashes, as the regions of The North Sea were overall stable and behaved. Spectators once again gathered in the usual spots, on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier, in the Eden Jakana region, and on the islands in the Genip and Ziziphus regions, to revel in the great sailing on display by this weeks fleets.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Olympic Mirror course, was comprised of a majority of six Bandit 25Rs. Five The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, three sailing single-handed and two sailing with crew respectively, two TMS Nacra 17s, one TMS Star Class, one Shields Class, and one Bandit IF rounded out this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Extreme course, was comprised of a small majority of four Wildwind Open 60s. Two Trudeau 12 Metres, two TMS One Design 65s, one Wildwind RC-44r, one ACA33, one TMS Ushuaia, one Bandit 50/3, one TMS Volvo Open 70, and one Wildwind AC-62 rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.

Race Director: Cryptic
Wind: SW (225°) 18kts

Note:
Did Not Finish (DNF) = number of finish +1
Did Not Start (DNS) = number of start +1

Today’s winner was Cole (Colette Verino), with Isa (isab DeCuir) second, and Julie (JulieRoyale Resident) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate and to the SLCG for helping with racing duties.

Race Notes:

18.2 Giving Mark-Room
(a) When boats are overlapped the outside boat shall give the

  1. It is also the second time that I first learn while reading the results that I was disqualified. absolutely no word to me. I could not even defend myself. I think that’s not all right

    • A protest hearing was held between you, myself, Joshua (the assisting race director in the race), and Nihiwatu (the protesting party) immediately after the finish of the race. Nihiwatu was inside and overlapped between you and the mark, inside the mark zone, at which point you pushed her into the mark. This was explained to you during the protest hearing. You were well informed not only of what incident was being protested, but also of your disqualification and the reason why at the end of the hearing. You have also been informed as to when and why you’ve been disqualified, every time you have been disqualified. Coming to these very results posts after the fact and proclaiming shock does not erase this.
