Mild sim sailing weather with a nice fleet turnout highlighted this weeks Cat Fight in the North Sea. The North Sea regions were temperamental as five DNFs (Did Not Finish) were claimed on the day, three during the first race and two during the second respectively. Two of the three DNFs during the first race were due to crashes, with the third due to a skippers connection disconnecting him from the internet. That same skippers internet connection again dropped during the second race, for one of the two DNFs, while the second DNF in the second race was due to a crash. The spectators gathered on the small racing dock and temporary Poseidon Sailing Center viewing platform1, in the newly acquired Eden Jakana region, were still treated to a great display of racing. This weeks fast fleet-foiled feline fleet, sailing on the North Sea Manta Reverse and North Sea Extreme course, was comprised of a majority of six The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, five single-handed and one crewed respectively. Two TMS Nacra 17s and one Wildwind AC-62 made up the remainder of the fleet. Special thanks to Daenerys for stepping in to direct in my place at the last moment, as the physical world had other plans for me.

1Due to the replacement of the Eden Lapwing region with the recently acquired Eden Jakana region, the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier had not been placed in position at the time of the races this past weekend. A temporary viewing platform is in place until the pier is put into place. As always, please pardon the dust as Maddie works to restore and remodel the Poseidon Sailing Centre.

Today’s winner was Elina (ElinaKrystal Resident), with Isa (isab DeCuir) second, and Candance (Candance Sweetwater) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.

Race Notes:
Palani (Palani Allen) was disqualified (DSQ) during the first race for sailing an incorrect course, missing the final mark, the blue buoy in the Sapote region.

Laured (laured Cabassoun) was disqualified (DSQ) during the first race for sailing an incorrect course, missing the final mark, the blue buoy in the Sapote region.

Elina (ElinaKrystal Resident) and Isa (isab DeCuir) finished tied with 3 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

Skipper Race 1 Race 2
ElinaKrystal Resident 2 1
isab DeCuir 1 2

In the last race, Elina breaks the tie with Isa with her first place finish over Isa’s second place finish.

Candance (Candance Sweetwater) and Lalia (LaliaCasau Resident) finished tied with 8 points.

Candance Sweetwater 5 3
LaliaCasau Resident 3 5

In the last race, Candance breaks the tie with Lalia with her third place finish over Lalia’s fifth place finish.

Cassidy (Serxial Resident) and Nihiwatu (Nihiwatu Resident) both finished tied with 11 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
Serxial Resident 4 7
Nihiwatu Resident 5 6

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Cassidy’s favor with having a fourth place finish over Nihiwatu’s fifth place finish as her best.

Rayz (Rayzza Rubble) and Laured (laured Cabassoun) both finished tied with 13 points. As both have the exact same finishes in each race, a fifth place and eighth place finish respectively, neither Rule A8.1 or Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing will break this tie. Therefore, Rayz and Laured remain tied in eighth place overall.
