Mild sim sailing weather and an outstanding spectator turnout highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The North Sea regions behaved well for both portions of the race, up until two DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded at the end of the big boat portion. One DNF was due to a skipper crashing on a crossing while the other DNF was due to a skipper not able to enter a region as it had reached its avatar maximum capacity preventing further avatars from entering. The spectator turnout was great, as not only did the aforementioned DNF occur due to the crowd gathered on both the small dock and the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier in the Eden Lapwing region, but more spectators were gathered along the shore of the island in the Ziziphus region. To remedy the growing crowds capping the avatar maximum in the Eden Lapwing region, as it’s a homestead and has a maximum of 20 avatars, a full region was ordered and is in place at the time of publishing of this post. The Eden Jakana region, a full region supporting a 110 avatar maximum, is now in place of the Eden Lapwing region. All Ultimate Sailor Buddy (USB) course notecards and maps in the map givers on the small racing dock in the Eden Jakana region have been updated as well as the landmarks included in the race notice notecards sent out going forward.
This weeks small boat fleet, sailing a two lap affair on the North Sea Short Loop course, was comprised of a triple split majority of three Bandit 25Rs, three Bandit IFs, and three The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, two single-handed and one crewed respectively. One TMS Laser One and one Shields Class made up the remainder of this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on North Sea Olympic Course (Long), was comprised of a majority of four Wildwind Open 60s. Two Wildwind AC-62s, one Bandit 50/3, one TMS Volvo Open 70, and one TMS One Design 65 made up the remainder of this weeks big boat fleet.
