Mild sim sailing weather and a great fleet turnout highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The North Sea regions were nominally behaved as three DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded during the small boats portion of the regatta. Two of those DNFs were due to skippers crashing on region crossings, while the third DNF was due to a skipper pulling her boat after realizing she had the incorrect course loaded into her Ultimate Sailor Buddy navigation HUD. The North Sea regions settled down for the big boat portion, as only one DNF was recorded during that race. Crowds took in the great display of racing from this weeks large fleets, from the comfortable confines of the still under renovation Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier, in the Eden Lapwing region, and along the beaches of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Triple Pink course, was comprised of a majority of seven Bandit 25Rs, five single-handed and two crewed respectively. Three The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, two single-handed and one crewed, two TMS Nacra 17s, one Bandit IF, and one Shields Class made up the remainder of this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, this weeks big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea CCW course, was comprised of a majority of five Wildwind Open 60s. Two Trudeau 12 Metres, one TMS One Design 65, one Bandit 50/31, and one Wildwind AC-62 made up the remainder of this weeks big boat fleet.

1Note: As of the publication of these results, the handicap for the Bandit 50/3 has been updated to a value of 0.68. You can see more of our handicaps on North Sea Handicap Table. From this point, only the X version of the Bandit 50/3, which is the no mod racing version, will be allowed to race in North Sea handicap races. The Bandit 50/3 X is also the first boat from The Mesh Shop/Bandit to have their new BOSS4 sailing scripts. The regular mod version of the Bandit 50/3 still uses the BOSS3 sailing scripts.

Race Director: Cryptic
Wind: SW (225°) 18kts

Note:
Did Not Finish (DNF) = number of finish +1
Did Not Start (DNS) = number of start +1

Today’s winner was Daenerys (blondij Resident), with Julie (JulieRoyale Resident) second, and Laured (laured Cabassoun) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate and to the SLCG for helping with race duties.

Race Notes:
Lilita (lilita Cifuentes) was disqualified (DSQ) during the first race for sailing an incorrect course, missing the fifth course mark, the pink buoy in the Eden Fulmar region.

ViV (vivipezz Resident) and Lalia (LaliaCasau Resident) finished tied with 11 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

Skipper Race 1 Race 2
vivipezz Resident 6 5
LaliaCasau Resident 5 6

In the last race, ViV breaks the tie with Lalia with her fifth place finish over Lalia’s sixth place finish.

Bianca (TgBianca Resident) and Isa (isab DeCuir) both finished tied with 14 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
TgBianca Resident 3 11
isab DeCuir 4 10

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Bianca’s favor with having a third place finish over Isa’s fourth place finish as her best.

Rossa (rossamare Resident), Red (RedHeadJO Resident), Joanee (Joan Mayflower) ,and Lilita (lilita Cifuentes) all finished tied with 22 points. As they all have the exact same finishes in each race, 11 point finishes in both portions respectively, neither Rule A8.1 or Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing will satisfy breaking their tie. Therefore, Rossa, Red, Joanee, and Lilita remain tied in twelfth place overall.
