Mild sim sailing weather and a smaller fleet turnout highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The regions of the North Sea nominally behaved as two DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day, both during the small boat portion of the regatta. The first DNF was due to a skipper being stripped from the boat on a crossing, while the other DNF was attributed to a skippers internet connection failing on them on the last leg of the race. The crowds gathered on the Poseidon Centre Spectator pier, in the Eden Lapwing region, and along the shore of beach, in the Eden Albatros region, enjoyed the great racing on display from this weeks smaller fleet turnout.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Copacabana course, was comprised of a majority of three Bandit 25Rs. One Bandit IF, one The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadow, and one Shields Class made up the remainder of the small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Olympic Mirror course, was comprised of a small majority of two Wildwind Open 60s. One TMS Volvo Open 70, one TMS One Design 65, one Bandit 50/3, and one Trudeau 12 Metre rounded out the big boat fleet.

Today’s winner was Isa (isab DeCuir), with Sandra (WWWAAAA Resident) second, and Daenerys (blondij Resident) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate and to the SLCG for helping with race duties.

Race Notes:
Bianca (TgBianca Resident) and Julie (JulieRoyale Resident) both finished tied with 8 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
TgBianca Resident 1 7
JulieRoyale Resident 3 5

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Bianca’s favor with having a first place finish over Julie’s third place finish as her best.

Kristaly (kristaly Resident) and Zimtzicke (Nicole Myhre) both finished tied with 11 points.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
kristaly Resident 4 7
Nicole Myhre 5 6

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Kristaly’s favor with having a fourth place finish over Zimtzicke’s fifth place finish as her best.
