Choppy sim sailing weather and a hungry set of region corners highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The North Sea regions behaved well for the first portion of the regatta, as only three DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded, one to a set of region corners. The seas turned a little choppy, and slightly hungry, for the second portion, as five DNFs were recorded, four of which again were due to a set of region corners. The lesson here, avoid a sim crossing at region corners as an avatar can not exist in four regions at once. Spectators were still thrilled to watch the racing at hand, as they flocked to the islands in the Genip and Ziziphus regions to cheer on the sailors. This weeks fleet, racing on the North Sea 02 and North Sea Circle courses, was comprised of majority of seven Bandit IFs. Two Bandit 25Rs made up the remainder of the fleet.

The fleets gets underway at the start of the second race of the North Sea Bandit Regatta, on Monday, April 22nd, 2019.

Race Notes:
Max (Maximiliano Szondi), Nikki (Nikki Lacrima), and Sirius (Sirius Rosca) all finished tied with 9 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.“
Skipper | Best Finish | Next Best Finish |
Maximiliano Szondi | 3 | 6 |
Nikki Lacrima | 4 | 5 |
Sirius Rosca | 4 | 5 |
With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Max’s favor with having a third place finish over Nikki’s and Sirius’ fourth place best finishes. Furthermore, as Nikki and Sirius are tied with duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.“
Skipper | Race 1 | Race 2 |
Nikki Lacrima | 5 | 4 |
Sirius Rosca | 4 | 5 |
In the last race, Nikki breaks the tie with Sirius with her fourth place finish over Sirius’s fifth place finish.
Rugger (ruggeromare Resident), Margo (gsgraaf Resident), and Shau (ShauIa Resident) all finished tied with 11 points.
No excluded scores shall be used.“
Skipper | Best Finish | Next Best Finish |
ruggeromare Resident | 2 | 9 |
gsgraaf Resident | 5 | 6 |
ShauIa Resident | 5 | 6 |
With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Rugger’s favor with having a second place finish over Margo’s and Shau’s fifth place best finishes. Furthermore, as Margo and Shau both have identical finishes, DNFs in both races respectively, neither Rule A8.1 or Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing will satisfy breaking this tie. Therefore, Margo and Shau remain tied in eighth place overall.
