Smooth sim sailing weather and a nice fleet turnout featured during this weeks Backwater Bay Yacht Club Open Regatta. The regions of Bingo Strait and the Northern Channel fared well for sailing as only one of the three DNFs (Did Not Finish) on the day was attributed to crashing. The other other two DNFs were due to sailors pulling their boats. Enjoying the sailing conditions was a fleet of nine small boats and six big boats across both races.

This weeks small boat fleet, racing on the BBYC Woodfall to Pastiche 02 course, was comprised of a split majority of three The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows and three Bandit 25Rs. Two TMS Nacra 17s and one Bandit IF made up the remainder of the small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, racing on the BBYC Pastiche Bay 02 course, was comprised of two TMS Volvo Open 70s, one TMS Ushuaia, one TMS One Design 65, one ACA33, and one Wildwind Open 60.

Today’s winner was Moon (moonglownight Resident), with Laured (laured Cabassoun) second, and Rayz (Rayzza Rubble) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.

Race Notes:
Isa (isab DeCuir), Palani (Palani Allen), and Nikki (Nikki Lacrima) all finished tied with 11 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
isab DeCuir 2 9
Palani Allen 4 7
Nikki Lacrima 5 6

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Isa’s favor with having a second place finish over Palani’s fourth place finish and Nikki’s fifth place finish as their best. Subsequently, Palani breaks the remaining tie with his fourth place best finish over Nikki’s fifth place best finish.
