This weeks Backwater Bay Yacht Club Cat Fight saw some nice sailing weather turn choppy with another nice spectator turn out. The regions in the Bingo Strait started out with their recent butter smooth behavior but grew temperamental during the second race as three DNFs (Did Not Finish) were claimed at the finish. A nice spectator crowd turned out in the Twice Bitten and Woodfall regions to witness 7 catamarans in each race fly on their foils. This weeks fleet, racing on the BBYC 03 and BBYC 06 courses, was comprised of a majority of five The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows. Two TMS Nacra 17s made up the remainder of the fleet.

Race Notes:
Julnara (Julnara Resident) and Astrid (AstridNewBonham Resident) finished tied with 9 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.“
Skipper | Race 1 | Race 2 |
Julnara Resident | 5 | 4 |
AstridNewBonham Resident | 4 | 5 |
In the last race, Julnara breaks the tie with Astrid with her fourth place finish over Astrid’s fifth place finish.
Palani (Palani Allen) and Csilla (Csilla Ezarael) both finished tied with 11 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.“
Skipper | Best Finish | Next Best Finish |
Palani Allen | 3 | 8 |
Csilla Ezarael | 5 | 6 |
With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Panai’s favor with having a third place finish over Csilla’s fifth place finish as her best.
