This weeks Backwater Bay Yacht Club Open Regatta showcased a great crowd of spectators and sailors with smooth sailing weather. Spectators turned out in force again as the water front to the villa in the Twice Bitten region was crowded as well as the spectator pier and committee boat dock in the Woodfall region. The regions of Bingo Strait responded in kind with smooth sailing weather as the only DNF (Did Not Finish) on the day was due to the scripts in Nico’s Bandit 50 ceasing to function.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on BBYC Olympic Course (Long), was comprised of majority of five Bandit 25Rs. Three Bandit IFs, two The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, one TMS Nacra 17, and one Quest Melges-24 made up the remainder of the small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the BBYC Lighthouse Race course, was comprised of two TMS One Design 65s, one TMS Volvo Open 70, one TMS Ushuaia, one Bandit 50R, and one Wildwind AC-45.

Race Director: Cryptic

Race Notes:
Nikki (Nikki Lacrima) and Rayz (Rayzza Rubble) finished tied with 12 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

Skipper Race 1 Race 2
Nikki Lacrima 7 5
Rayzza Rubble 5 7

In the last race, Nikki breaks the tie with Rayz with her fifth place finish over Rayz’s seventh place finish.

Laured (laured Cabassoun), Cole (Colette Verino), and Red (RedHeadJO Resident) all finished tied with 13 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
laured Cabassoun 3 10
Colette Verino 4 9
RedHeadJO Resident 6 7

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Laured’s favor with having a third place finish over Cole’s fourth place finish and Red’s sixth place finish as their best. Subsequently, Cole breaks the remaining tie with Red, with her fourth place best finish over Red’s sixth place best finish.

Nico (slimjonny Resident) and Max (Maximiliano Szondi) both finished tied with 19 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
