Smooth sim weather, a large spectator turn out, and exciting sailing featured in this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The sims behaved extremely well as no DNFs were recorded due to crashes in either race. Spectator turn out was also great as viewers flocked to the shore in the Eden Albatros region and along the beaches of Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region. The sailing itself was exciting as things got bumpy in race two but everyone recovered well. This weeks fleet was again comprised of a majority of ten Bandit IFs with one lone Bandit 25. We would also like to welcome Soh, who was racing in his first set of races in the North Sea.
The first race, on the NS-SOL-13A course, saw the racers off to a speedy start as six of the nine boats in the fleet were over the start line as 28 seconds ticked off the race clock. Jackson got things started, crossing the start line at 00:00:03. Bianca, in the lone Bandit 25, was next to cross the start line at 00:00:07. Ultra followed along next across the start line at 00:00:18. Neil was next to cross the start line at 00:00:22 followed by Red at 00:00:24 and Daenerys at 00:00:28. Soh was next across the start line at 00:00:54 followed by Alexandre at 00:01:00 and Rugger at 00:01:07. Bianca, in her quicker Bandit 25, sped to the lead in the fleet with Red making moves through the fleet and settling in behind Bianca. Daenerys followed along on Red’s stern to also move up through the fleet. Alexandre made some of his own moves to pass through to fleet, settling in right behind Daenerys. Neil took up position in the middle of the fleet with Jackson, who fell off his great start, settling in behind Neil. Ultra took up position towards the rear of the fleet, falling back from his quick start, followed by Rugger and Soh. Bianca held her lead and crossed the finish line first, taking line honors as Red crossed the finish line second behind her. Daenerys was next to cross the finish line followed by Alexandre, Neil, Jackson, Ultra, Rugger, and Soh.
The second race, on the NS-SOL-13B course, saw the fleet off to another quick but albeit somewhat bumpy start as nine of the eleven boat fleet were across the start line as 30 seconds ticked off the race clock. Soh got things started crossing the start line at 00:00:01 followed by Ultra on his stern, crossing at 00:00:04. Bianca, once again in the lone Bandit 25, crossed the start line next at 00:00:6 followed by Red, right on her stern, at 00:00:07. Bianca immediately tacked to port after crossing the start line and started a chain reaction colliding with Red which subsequently delayed Daenerys, Jackson, and Alexandre as they crossed the start line and tried to avoid colliding with Red and Bianca. Bianca was charged with a rule 13* foul and completed a 360° penalty when she was clear of fleet traffic. Daenerys crossed the start line finally at 00:00:13 followed by Jackson at 00:00:15, and Alexandre at 00:00:17. Julia crossed the start line next at 00:00:27, followed by Moon at 00:00:30, Neil at 00:00:55, and Rugger at 00:00:57. Alexandre, Jackson, and Daenerys all recovered well from the bumpy start, as Alexandre made his way to the front of the fleet, passing Ultra who settled in behind Alxandre. Jackson moved up through the fleet, settling in behind Ultra, as Daenerys nipped at his stern. Neil made moves of his own through the fleet and took up position behind Daenerys. Julia settled in just aft of Neil as Moon took up position near the rear of the fleet followed by Soh, who fell off his great start, and then Rugger. Red, after battling to recover from the bumpy start, ultimately abandoned the race and recorded a DNF. Bianca, after completing her penalty turn, tried to continue the race but her connection dropped resulting in her recording a DNF. Alexandre held on to his lead and crossed the finish line first, taking line honors. Ultra crossed the finish line second followed by Jackson, Daenerys, Neil, Julia, Moon, Soh, and Rugger.
* Rule 13: WHILE TACKING
After a boat passes head to wind, she shall keep clear of other boats until she is on a close-hauled course. During that time rules 10, 11 and 12 do not apply. If two boats are subject to this rule at the same time, the one on the other’s port side or the one astern shall keep clear. Source: The Racing Rules of Sailing 2017-2020

Today’s winner was Alexandre (ramuf Resident), with Daenerys (blondij Resident) second, and Ultra (ultramantra Resident) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate and the SLCG for helping with race duties.
Race Notes:
Ultra (ultramantra Resident), Jackson (Jacquimo Resident), and Neil (eager2discover Resident) all finished tied with 9 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.“
Skipper | Best Finish | Next Best Finish |
ultramantra Resident | 2 | 7 |
Jacquimo Resident | 3 | 6 |
eager2discover Resident | 4 | 5 |
With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Ultra’s favor with having a second place finish over Jackson’s third place finish and Neil’s fourth place finish as their best. Subsequently, Jackson’s third place best finish breaks the tie in his favor over Neil’s fourth place best finish.
Moon (moonglownight Resident), Soh (sohaidan Resident), and Ruger (ruggeromare Resident) all finished tied with 17 points.
No excluded scores shall be used.“
Skipper | Best Finish | Next Best Finish |
moonglownight Resident | 7 | 10 |
sohaidan Resident | 8 | 9 |
ruggeromare Resident | 8 | 9 |
With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Moon’s favor with having a seventh place finish over Soh’s and Rugger’s eighth place finishes as there best. Soh and Rugger remain tied and as they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.“
Skipper | Race 1 | Race 2 |
sohaidan Resident | 9 | 8 |
ruggeromare Resident | 8 | 9 |
In the last race, Soh breaks the tie with Rugger with his eighth place finish over Rugger’s ninth place finish.
