Exciting racing and smooth sailing weather featured in this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. LL threw a curve ball at everyone with their login servers going down for almost four hours earlier in the day, however they righted the servers and we were able to get the North Sea regions all restarted in time before the Regatta. The regions responded well with no crashes or DNFs recorded for the fleet on the day. The smooth sailing weather led to exciting racing that got very competitive during the second race. This weeks fleet was also entirely a Bandit IF affair.
The first race, on the the North Sea Manta course, saw Carlota get things started as she crossed the start line first at 00:00:06. Rulette was next to cross the line at 00:00:17, followed by Rayz at 00:00:25, Neil at 00:00:28, and Jackson at 00:00:33. Carlota would use her start advantage and pace the fleet at the front. Rulette settled in behind Carlota, in second while Rayz fell back as both Neil and Jackson made moves to pass him. Carlota held her lead and crossed the finish line first, claiming line honors. Rulette crossed the finish line second followed by Neil, Jackson, and Rayz.
The second race, on the North Sea Trapezoid course, saw the fleet get off to a great start. Carlota once again crossed the start line first at 00:00:02 with Jackson right on her stern, crossing at 00:00:03. Rulette was hot on their tails as she crossed at 00:00:06, followed by Neil at 00:0:17, and Rayz at 00:00:40. Rulette wound up getting the clean wind line on the course side of the start line and pulled into first. Jackson tacked west early while Carlota followed a similar tack line as Rulette, this placed Jackson in third with Carlota in second. Neil was right behind them in fourth with Rayz, who had almost immediately tacked west after the start line, in fifth. Jackson’s early tack west would pay off as he was able to tack south and maintain a starboard tack and Right of Way across both Carlota and Rulette’s lines as they were on port tacks. Carlota opted to sail astern of Jackson while Rulette tacked south early. Rulette managed to settle into second at this point, behind Jackson, while Carlota was now in third with Neil and Ray trailing. Jackson would maintain his lead until the 4th leg were he tacked south too soon in the Bullace region, heading to the course mark in the Eldeberry region. Rulette and Carlota, in second and third respectively, held their patience and tacked south with better angles to the course mark. As Jackson got to the buoy in the Eldeberry region, the 4th mark on the course, he had very little speed to round the buoy with. Rulette and Carlota both had better speed and passed Jackson as they rounded the mark. Rulette now sat firmly in first with Carlota right on her stern as they both ran to the 5th course mark, the orange buoy in the Sapodilla region. Jackson was now in third with Neil and Rayz trailing just behind him. Rulette would hold her slim lead over Carlota, as she crossed the finish line first to take line honors. Carlota crossed the finish line second, a mere 7 seconds behind Rulette, making for an exciting finish. Jackson was next to cross the finish line in third, followed by Neil and Rayz.
