From the left (in Patchogue IIs): Cryptic and Peachie, Peter (behind the commmittee boat), Kurt and Asami, Susi, and Luna.
On the dock: Rulette, Joshua, Petra, and Gabi.
The sims were well behaved with a nice spectator turn out for this weeks North Sea Trudeau Patchogue II Class Races. We had no crashes as the sim crossings were smooth and relatively lag free for the entire fleet through both races on the day. We also saw a nice turnout of spectators along the coast of the Eden Alabatros region, the beaches along Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region, at the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier in the Eden Puffin region, and at the committee boat dock in the Breadnut region. This weeks wind was a bit gustier out of the south west, at 20 kts with 2 kt gusts and 18 degree shifts.
The first race, on the North Sea Circle course, saw Kurt, with Asami as crew, get off to a speedy start, at 00:00:02, as I, with Peachie as crew, just nicked across the line a second early and had to go around again to finally get started at 00:01:00. Peter, with Luna as crew, was more fortune, getting across the start line at 00:00:10, followed by Susi, crossing the start line at 00:00:19. Kurt, with Asami, would pace the fleet, as Peter, with Luna, and Susi fell in right behind. I, with Peachie, was not giving up however, and continued to tack with the wind shifts and made moves to pass Susi, and eventually Peter, with Luna. Kurt, with Asami, held his strong lead, crossing the finish line first, followed by myself, with Peachie, and then Peter, with Luna, and then Susi.
The second race, on the North Sea Copacabana course, saw Kurt, with Asami, repeat his quick start, crossing the start line at 00:00:02 again. I, with Peachie, followed right behind, crossing the start line at 00:00:08, followed by Susi, crossing the start line at 00:00:13, and Peter, crossing the start line at 00:00:19. Kurt, with Asami, once again paced the fleet, with myself, with Peachie, following right behind, keeping them in site. Peter kept things competitive with myself, as he was on my stern for most of the course, even getting into a great wind shadowing duel with me on the reach from Soncoya to Eden Fulmer. Susi was not far behind Peter. Kurt, with Asami, would cross the finish line first, as I, with Peachie, followed right behind. Peter crossed next, followed by Susi.

Today’s winner was Cryptic (Cryptic Resident), with Kurt (Kurt Calamity) second, and Peter (PeterSailor Resident) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.
Race Note:
Peter was unfortunately disqualified from the first race for not racing the correct course.
Kurt was unfortunately disqualified from the second race for finishing the race without completing a penalty 360 for a ROW violation just before the finish.
Peter (PeterSailor Resident) and Susi (Susicat Oh) both finished tied with 6 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.“
Skipper | Best Finish | Next Best Finish |
PeterSailor Resident | 2 | 4 |
Susicat Oh | 3 | 3 |
With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Peter’s favor with having a second place finish over Susi’s third place finish as her best.
