Another record tying turnout featured in this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. This weeks turnout tied last weeks record turnout, with 18 boats showing up to race in the small boat fleet. We also had another great spectator turnout as the popular viewing spots of the Poseidon Center Spectator Pier in Eden Puffin, the shore in Eden Albatros, the committee boat dock in Breadnut, and the beaches of Lighthouse Isle in Ziziphus all had crowds watching the races. The sims themselves were relatively behaved as only a few DNFs were attributed to crossing crashes. The other DNFs were what Petra calls ‘corner tickling’, sailing right into the corner intersection of four sims.
The small boat fleet, racing on North Sea Olympic Course (Long), was made up of a majority of seven Bandit IFs. Three Shields Class, two Dolphin Moths, two Melges-24s, a Ktaba 20 MX Teleri, a Laser One, a Nacra 17, and a Flying Shadow made up the remainder of the small boat fleet. Racing got off to a quick start as half the small boat fleet was across the start line in 30 seconds. Peter, in his Laser One, recorded a nearly perfect start at 00:00:01. Kristaly, in her Shields Class, followed next at 00:00:03. Lucy, in her Melges-24, was next to cross at 00:00:05 with Beane, in her Melges-24, in tow at 00:00:06. I was next to cross, in my Dolphin Moth, right along with Stu, in his Bandit IF with Kate, both of us at 00:00:07. Cole, in her Nacra 17, was next to cross at 00:00:20 with ViV, in her Flying Shadow, right behind at 00:00:24. Jackson, in his Bandit IF, was next across at 00:00:29 with Joshua, in his Dolphin Moth, right behind at 00:00:31. Kurt, in his Bandit IF, was across next at 00:00:40 with Asami, in her Ktaba MX 20 Teleri, in tow at 00:00:45. Traeumer, in his Shields Class, was next to cross at 00:00:49 with Carlota, in her Bandit IF, crossing at 00:00:52. Cranston, in his Bandit IF with Shaylin, was across next at 00:00:54 while Neil, in his Bandit IF, crossed at 00:01:13. Susi, in her Bandit IF, crossed next at 00:01:45, with Dess, in her Shields Class, crossing at 00:02:28. I jumped out to the lead, in my speedy Dolphin Moth, pacing the pack as Joshua, in his Dolphin Moth, settled in right behind me. Beane, in her Melges-24, settled into third in the fleet as Cole, in her Nacra 17, and ViV, in her Flying Shadow, fell in right behind her. Peter, in his Laser One, after that jump on the start, fell behind to the quicker boats, to settle in behind the catamarans. Asami, in her Ktaba 20 MX Teleri, passed several of the slower Bandit IFs that started ahead of her to stay on Peter’s stern. Dess, in her Shields Class, coming from behind in her start fell in right behind Asami. Next up was the Bandit IF pack, with Carlota leading the small pack as Jackson fell in behind her. Neil was right behind as Cranston, with Shaylin, Kurt, and Susi all falling in behind him. Kristaly, in her Shields Class, Lucy, in her Melges-24, Stu, in his Bandit IF with Kate, and Traeumer, in his Shields Class, all met the crashing fate and unfortunately recorded DNFs. I held the pack lead, in my Dolphin Moth, and crossed the finish line first, taking line honors with Joshua, in his Dolphin Moth, crossing the finish line second. Beane, in her Melges-24, was next to cross third, as Cole, in her Nacra 17, and Viv, in her Flying Shadow, crossed right after her, 12 and 16 seconds apart, respectively. Peter, in his Laser One, was next to cross the finish line, with Asami, in her Ktaba 20 MX Teleri, and Dess, in her Shields Class, crossing right behind. The bandit IF pack was next to finish, as Carlota, Jackson, Neil, Cranston with Shaylin, Kurt and Susi all crossed the line.
The big boat fleet, racing on the North Sea Butterfly course, was made up of a majority four TMS Ushuaias. Three Wildwind RC-44s, a Trudeau 12 Metre, an ACA33, a Wildwind AC45, a TMS One Design 65, and a Bandit 60 all made up the remainder of the big boat fleet. This race got off to a quick start just like the first, as Peter, in his Trudeau 12 Metre, not satisfied with his 1 second laser One start recorded a perfect 00:00:00 start. Beane, in her TMS One Design 65, was next across the start line at 00:00:03. Viv, in her Wildwind AC45, was next to cross at 00:00:06. Lucy, in her Wildwind RC-44, crossed next at 00:00:14 as Stu, in his TMS Ushuaia with Kate, was right on Lucy’s stern, crossing at 00:00:15. I was next to cross, in my TMS Ushuaia, at 00:00:21 with Cranston, in his Bandit 60 with Shaylin, crossing right behind me at 00:00:22. Traeumer, in his Wildwind RC-44, was across next at 00:00:31 as Cole, in her ACA33, followed right behind at 00:00:37. Susi, in her TMS Ushuaia, was next to cross at 00:01:06, with both Joshua, in his TMS Ushuaia, and Dess, in her Wildwind RC-44, both crossing on Susi’s stern at 00:01:07. ViV, in her speedy Wildwind AC45, did not hesitate on her acceleration, getting up on her foils to take off and pace the fleet out front. Beane, in her TMS One Design 65, settled in her spot behind ViV, as Peter, in his slightly slower Trudeau 12 Metre, fell back behind Beane and Cole, in her ACA33, to the middle of the fleet. I was right behind Peter, in my TMS Ushuaia, with Cranston, in his Bandit 60 with Shaylin, and Susi, in her TMS Ushuaia, settling in right behind me. Lucy, in her Wildwind RC-44, Stu, in his TMS Ushuaia with Kate, Traeumer, in his Wildwind RC-44, Joshua, in his TMS Ushuaia, and Dess, in her Wildwind RC-44 all crashed. Lucy, Traeumer, and Joshua all recorded DNFs while Stu and Dess received DSQs due to missing the first course mark in the Sapote region. ViV held her lead, in her Wildwind AC45, and crossed the finish line first to take line honors. Beane, in her TMS One Design 65, crossed the finish line second with Cole, in her ACA33, crossing the line third. Peter, in his Trudeau 12 Metre, was next to cross the line. I crossed the line next, in my TMS Ushuaia, with Cranston, in his Bandit 60 with Shaylin, and Susi, in her TMS Ushuaia, crossing next.

Lucy (LucyInTheSky Afarensis), Stu (stuart1524 Resident), and Traeumer (traeumer66 Resident) all finished tied with 23 points. However, since they all finished with duplicate points in both races, 15 and 8 respectively, neither A8.1 or A8.2 will break their tie, therefore they remain tied in thirteenth place.
