Great starts and more great sim weather featured in this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The sims continue to showcase some great performance with little to no lag and smooth crossings, week after week here in The North Sea. We also got to see some really great starts, showing that pre-start routine practice is paying off. This week’s fleet was made up of a solid majority of five Bandit IF’s with one lone Bandit 60 making up the remainder. We also saw Neil (eager2discover Resident) return to the Bandit Regatta after a long absence from SL racing, welcome back Neil.
The first race, on the NS-WC Rch course, got off to a nice start with Jackson, in his Bandit IF, getting a really nice early start with a clean line right near the committee boat. Alexandre, in his Bandit IF, was across next followed by Jo, with Bettie as her crew in her Bandit IF. Ultramantra, in his Bandit IF, followed with Katana, in her Bandit 60, and Neil, in his Bandit IF, next.
Jackson continued to pace the fleet past the first mark, south of Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region. However, Alexandre made some nice moves and gained the lead over Jackson. Ultramantra made some moves of his own, passing Jo and then Jackson to take up position behind Alexandre. Alexandre ultimately took line honors, crossing the finish line first, with Ultramantra, Jackson, and Jo following, all in their Bandit IF’s. Katana, in her Bandit 60, was next across the finish with Neil, in his Bandit IF, crossing next.
The second race, on the North Sea Manta course, showcased an even better start as a tight pack of four IF’s, lead by Alexandre and including Jo, with Bettie, Ultramantra and Jackson, crossed cleanly within seconds of each other. Katana, in her Bandit 60, was next to start with Neil, in his Bandit IF, following. The order of the fleet remained unchanged for the first portion of the course until Ultramantra, who was doing great in second, had a computer fault and his computer shutdown completely forcing him to record a DNF. It was Katana’s turn to show some moves as she passed Jackson and Jo, with Bettie, to overtake second in the fleet. Alexandre again took line honors as he crossed the finish line first. Katana was second across the line, followed by Jo, with Bettie, Jackson, and then Neil.

Today’s winner was Alexandre (ramuf Resident), with Katana (Bacchylides Edenflower) second, and Jo (Jo Soosung) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate and to the SLCG for helping with race duties.
Race Note:
Jo (Jo Soosung) was assessed and completed a 360° penalty turn during race 2 for a course mark ROW violation against Jackson (Jacquimo Resident).
Jo (Jo Soosung) and Jackson (Jacquimo Resident) finished tied with 7 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.“

In the last race, Jo breaks the tie with Jackson with her third place finish over Jackson’s fourth place finish.
