Continued great sim weather and some more speed featured in this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The sims again continued their streak of great performance with low lag and no crashed due to the sims themselves. We saw some more speed, as well, with two more Dolphin Moth’s competing in the small boats race, and a very solid field of RC-44’s in the big boats race.
This weeks small boat fleet, racing on North Sea Circle, was made up of a split majority of three Dolphin Moths and three Bandit IF’s. A Trudeau One, a Melges-24, and a Flying Shadow made up the remainder of the fleet. Racing got off to a quick start as Lucy, in her Melges-24, was across the line with me, in my Dolphin Moth, at the one second mark. Next across was Alexandre, in his bandit IF, followed by Joshua, in his Dolphin Moth. Jackson, in his Bandit IF, and Cranston, with Shaylin as crew in his Bandit IF, were next followed by Cor, in his Trudeau One. Beane was across next, in her Flying Shadow, followed by, new comer The North Sea, Gail, in her Dolphin Moth. I quickly sped ahead, with Joshua following right behind. Gail sped past everyone to follow right behind Joshua, as all three of our Dolphin Moth’s paced the fleet. Beane made some moves of her own, as she passed the bandit IF’s and Lucy’s Melges-24. Cor, in his Trudeau One, took up position in the middle rear of the fleet, with the slower Bandit IF pack following along in the rear. This order held for the finish as I took line honors with Joshua, and Gail right behind. Beane was next across to finish, with Lucy right behind her. Cor came across next with Jackson following behind.
The big boat fleet, racing on North Sea Manta, was made up a speedy majority of six Wildwind RC-44R’s. A Ushuaia, an Open 60, and a bandit 60 made up the remainder. Things got off to a speedy start in this race too, as Dess got a perfect start at 00:00:00 in her RC-44R. Beane was next across, in her RC-44R, at 00:00:01. Alexandre, in his RC-44R, followed next at 00:00:04. Cor, also in his RC-44R, followed next at 00:00:05. Lucy, in her RC-44R, was next at 00:00:07 followed by Gabi, in her RC-44R, at 00:00:09. All six RC-44R’s, more than half the fleet, were on the course before 10 seconds had elapsed, showing how quick these boats are to accelerate. I was across next, in my Ushuaia, followed by Gail, in her Open 60. Finally, Cranston, with Shaylin as crew, was across in his Bandit 60. The RC-44 pack continued to pace the fleet with Gail, in her Open 60, sneaking into the middle of that pack. Alexandre worked his way to the front of the RC-44 pack, and the fleet, with Dess staying right behind him followed by Beane. Gabi worked her way up to the middle of the RC-44 pack, with Lucy right behind her, followed by Cor. This lineup held to the finish as Alexandre took line honors. Dess was next across to finish, followed by Beane. Gail, in her Open 60, followed next with Gabi, Lucy, and Cor right behind. I was next across, with Cranston following along behind me.
