A really nice fleet showed up for this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The sims also continued their excellent run of great sim weather with no crashes. We also had a first, the entire handicapped Bandit sailboat line, including the Bandit 25, Bandit 50, Bandit 55, Bandit 60, and Bandit IF, raced in this weeks regatta (the Bandit Sweatpea is only class race-able against itself, in The North Sea, due to its permanent autopilot sailing trim feature). This week’s fleet, in race 1, featured a majority of eight Bandit IF’s with a Bandit 60, Bandit 55, and Bandit 25 making up the remainder. Cor switched things up, for the second race, and switched to his Bandit 50 making the fleet six Bandit IF’s along with Katana’s Bandit 60 and Burton’s Bandit 25.
The first race, on North Sea Olympic Course (Long), saw a really nice clean start across the entire fleet. Bettie, with Jo as crew, got across first, followed by Stu and then Alexandre, all in their Bandit IF’s. Katana, in her Bandit 60, and Jackson, in his Bandit IF, were next across, followed by Cor, in his Bandit IF, Riv, in his Bandit 55, and Ceasar, in his Bandit IF. Burton, in his Bandit 25, Ultramantra, in his Bandit IF, and Carter, in his Bandit if, were next, making up the rear of the fleet. Alexandre made his way to the front of the fleet vying for position against Bettie, with Jo, by the first mark, on the southern tip of Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region. Behind them, Katana and Jackson were both making their moves, passing Stu to take up right behind Bettie and Alexandre. Alexandre took over the lead by the second mark in Eden Fulmar and continued to extend it, eventually crossing the line first, for line honors. Bettie was next across the line, followed by Katana, Jackson, Ultramantra, Riv, Stu, Cor, Ceasar, and finally, Burton.
The second race, a 3 lap affair on North Sea Short Loop, saw Bettie, with Jo, first across the line again at the start. Bettie’s efforts practicing are really starting to pay off and it shows. Ultramantra was next across, followed by Cor, having just switched to his Bandit 50 from his Bandit IF. Alexandre, Burton, Stu, Jackson, Katana and finally Ceasar all followed. The fleet spread out across the North Sea on the first lap as Cor made up ground, in his speedier Bandit 50, and took the lead by his second lap. Cor continued his fast pace as he eventually lapped Burton, who was making up the rear of the fleet in his Bandit 25. Alexandre, not to be outdone in making moves, passed both Bettie, with Jo, and Ultramantra, taking up position behind Cor. Katana, in her Bandit 60, did her own fair share of passing, moving past Jackson, Stu, Burton and Ultramantra. Cor was first across the finish, to take line honors, with Alexandre coming in second across the line. Bettie, with Jo, Katana, Ultramantra, Jackson, Stu, Ceasar, and finally Burton all followed.

“If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.“

In the last race, Ultramantra breaks the tie with Jackson with his fourth place finish over Jackson’s fifth place finish.
Riv (Rivernaut Piers), Ceasar (Ceasar Xigalia), and Cor (CorSakov Sosa) all finished tied with 16 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.“

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Riv’s favor with having a sixth place finish over Ceasar’s seventh place finish, and Cor’s eighth place finish as their best. Subsequently, Ceasar’s seventh place best finish further breaks his tie with Cor, having eighth as his best placing.
