This weeks Trudeau Classic Regatta, in The North Sea, saw a great turn out for both races with some really nice sim weather. The fleet was composed of five 12 Metre’s, with the remainder made up of a New York 30, a Leetle Cat II, and a Patchogue II.
The first race, on NS-SOL-13A, saw some great racing among the 12 Metre pack as Peter and Cole were sailing close throughout the course. Initially, Cole had barged Peter at the start line, however as the foul didn’t actually impede or cause any loss of time to Peter, it was the race directors decision to overrule the protest lodged by Peter.
The second race, on the recently created North Sea Extreme course, saw some spirited competition once again among the !2 Metre fleet, as I would up catching up to Cole on the course and finally passing her right at the finish line. Asami in her Patchogue II and Rosie in her Leetle Cat II also were exchanging position back and forth through the course making for some fun racing.

Today’s winner was Rosie, with Arya second, and Cole in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.
Prize plaques will be awarded for the first, second, and third place finishers based on the final points tally.
Race Note:
Arya and Cole finished tied with 5 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.“

In the last race, Arya breaks the tie with Cole with her first place finish over Cole’s fourth place finish.
Asami and Rulette finished tied with 12 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.“

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Asami’s favor with having a fifth place finish over Rulette’s sixth place finish as her best.
